meditation Meditation offers practitioners an opportunity to develop a reflective mind. We learn to observe ordinary things, to investigate ordinary afflictions that occur in our lives, to cultivate understanding and joy. Through this attitude of looking and listening to what is happening moment to moment, meditation becomes the backdrop for a lifetime of examination, softening and opening to the way things are. Every Monday evening from 19.00 to 20.30, people are invited to learn about and practice meditation at Sāti Meditation Centre in association with The New School. Each meeting begins with the traditional offering of incense and chanting in Pali followed by a period of sitting practice. Sittings are guided when appropriate and facilitated by readings and anecdotes. There is often time for brief questions and answers or discussion. |

In addition, people can request private interviews to discuss the practice and free literature from the Theravada Forest Tradition is sometimes available in both English and Italian. During the week there are also other scheduled sittings with limited space for walking meditation inside. Consistent with a long standing meditation tradition, there is no charge for meditation. People are, however, encouraged to make a suitable monthly offering to defray associated operating costs or for the cost of transportation and lodging when sittings are organised outside the studio or in other countries. For further information please read the interview with John Angelori or visit the Santacittarama Buddhist Monastery website. |
